Weekend Preview 4.16.09

April 16, 2009

Earth Day is next Wednesday, but Nashville will be celebrating this Saturday, April 18th. Nashville's Earth Day Festival takes place at Centennial Park, and children's activities will kick off at 11:00 A.M. There will be a park-wide scavenger hunt complete with prizes, a kid's entertainment stage featuring music and dancers from around the world, and "Earth Day Soliel," which the organizers describe as "a 3-ring eco-friendly circus of fun and games."

You'll also find delicious festival food, local food and farming workshops for grown-ups, and a great sense of community spirit.

Here at Being Savvy Nashville we'll be talking about celebrating Earth Day with your preschoolers on Monday and Tuesday, so be sure to stop by!

Weekend Preview 3.12.09

March 12, 2009

The weekend is almost here! Here are a few fun things happening around town this weekend.

If you like your Friday the 13th wild instead of spooky, those tiger cubs I mentioned Tuesday will be showing their stripey faces at the zoo starting tomorrow, March 13th.

Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse, based on the storybook by Kevin Henkes, opens at Nashville Children's Theatre this weekend. Whether or not they're familiar with Henkes' spunky mouse heroine, your preschoolers are sure to love NCT's interpretation of the story. My daughter was lucky enough to attend a NCT performance of Go, Dog, Go! last spring and it made a huge impression on her. She had never attended a theatrical performance before but is itching to go back. The show runs every weekend through April 5th, but if you can't catch one of those dates there will be another run in June.

It's time for Feile Franklin once again. Held this Saturday March 14th on the square in downtown Franklin, this celtic celebration takes place around St. Patrick's Day every year. Your kids will enjoy musical and dance performances while you enjoy the beer tastings.

Have a great weekend!

Our weekend pick comes thanks to the Nashvillest site: Dragon Boat & River Festival . I don't know about your preschoolers, but mine have loved the Olympic water events in China.
