Christmas Sounds of Nashville

December 24, 2008

Wow, Christmas Eve is finally here. We've reached the end of our advent calendar and the end of the waiting -- tomorrow is the big day. Make some hot cocoa, build a big fire, and listen to your favorite Christmas albums all day long. My daughter likes to sing Christmas songs throughout the year, so she was especially thrilled when we broke out the Christmas CDs in late November. My family tends  Read more...

It's a Wrap -- Kids and Gift Wrapping

December 22, 2008

If your household is anything like mine, the scissors have been flying as you scramble to wrap your holiday gifts. Rather than wait until after my daughter's bedtime to get things done, I've told her that big girls help their mamas wrap Christmas presents. Located in the Gaslight Theater, ICE features a frozen world that includes towers, tunnels, and other  Read more...

Nashville's Nutcracker

December 18, 2008

My three-year-old daughter Siri is fascinated with ballet. We've read every Angelina Ballerina book sixteen times, she'd rather twirl than walk through the grocery store, and she's going to find a sweet handmade purple tutu under the Christmas tree this year. We're a bit busy with holiday preparations to attend this year, but next December I'd like to treat her to her first professional ballet  Read more...

A Very Offbeat Christmas

December 15, 2008

Some families top their trees with angels or stars passed down from generations before them. In our house, that sacred spot is occupied by an angel with undeniably canine features. We call him Max, and he sits there in honor of a dearly departed dog by the same name. In some homes It's A Wonderful Life is required viewing on Christmas Eve. At our house it's that other holiday classic, Christmas  Read more...
