How to Cultivate the (Very Tiniest) Green Thumb: Visit Cheekwood Cheaply

January 07, 2009

For the month of January only, tickets to Cheekwood Museum and Gardens have been lowered to one dollar. Adult tickets are usually ten dollars, so the savings are significant.

This may not seem like the best time of the year to visit Nashville's finest gardens, but we're bound to have a few unseasonably warm days between now and the end of the month. Even if you you visit on a wet or chilly day, seeing the museum alone is worth more than one dollar. Current museum exhibits include an egg-cellent Faberge collection (please forgive the pun.)

Cheekwood is very kid friendly, as you can see and do as much as you want at your own pace. Special programs for children occur every Tuesday and Saturday morning. If Nashville does happen to catch a warm day you'll find a place to picnic, countless photo opportunities, and a tour of a beautiful museum. You'll also have the opportunity to teach your preschooler about the winter wonders involved in gardening. Not everything will be in full bloom, which gives children ample opportunity to ask questions and learn about the life cycle of plants. You're not likely to find that on any other dollar menu in town.
