Kid-Friendly Coffee House: Ugly Mugs, East Nashville

August 18, 2008

Saturday, a friend and I checked out East Nashville's newest coffee house, Ugly Mugs on Eastland.  We had already heard rumors that this hip, steel-and-gray development was also kid-friendly.

"They" were right.

In one hour, I counted 2 nursing moms, 3 expecting moms, and a handful of toddlers enjoying the sunny kids' area.

Ugly Mugs' menu is standard coffee house fare, with a small case of sweet treats and bottled juice available for little ones.

(Locally owned Fresh Blends Smoothie Bar sits next door.)

We loved the sunshine and fresh air permitted by Ugly Mugs' retractable garage door.   Note that the outdoor seating area runs along the building's side--not sandwiched next to a busy parking lot.

It's always a relief to enjoy a coffee date without a serious Wi-Fi-er shushing your preschoolers.

What's even more relaxing?  When a business like Ugly Mugs makes the welcome bright and clear.
