Summer Music Playlists: Sounds For Music City

July 01, 2008

I'll be the first to admit:  I'm more likely to pop in an audio book than the funkiest new kid MP3.  But there's something about summer which demands a little rhythm, isn't there?

Here are some summer music favorites to get you in that Nashville spirit:

On the way to the Maryland Farms YMCA's awesome new kid pool:  Swimming, Swimming by Adam & The Couch Potatoes.

Every kid at the International Puppet Show was bopping to this Nashville group's upbeat, indie sound.   (Mom favorite:  Riding Without Fighting)

Down the Natchez Trace Parkway for a Sunday drive:  any of the family bands featured on Bluegrass Kids.

My kids love the foot-tapping, hand-clapping rhythms  (so long as they're not pounding the back of my car seat!).  As a parent, I'm inspired by these musical families.

Not into Gospel?  Try the acoustic folk/bluegrass of Astrograss:  Let Me Stay Up All Night.

Driving home from a Dragon Park Sunday concertFred Nobloch and Jelly Roll Johnson, live @ the bluebird cafe

Not necessarily kid-music, but what family didn't enjoy the fantastic live music at Nashville's favorite park?  A great way to introduce your kids to local Nashville musicians (and parents).

Now I know I'm missing your favorite Nashville kid sounds.  Tell us who they are and why we should load them on the Ipod!
